Canik TP9SFx Review
A Comprehensive Guide
The Canik TP9SFx is an excellent semi-automatic pistol. It has very low recoil, and it’s easy to shoot well with. We like the ergonomics of this weapon, as it feels good in your hand and sits comfortably on your hip when you’re carrying it. The trigger pull weight is also light enough that you can fire off quick follow-up shots without too much effort. This blog post is on the Canik TP9SFx Review and the features of this handgun.
This is a great choice for anyone looking to get into competitive shooting because it allows you to get your gun to the range and start training quickly. We also like that this weapon has a full-length rail system that enables you to add pretty much any type of accessory to the gun – including scopes and lights – if you want an added boost inaccuracy. Canik TP9SFx is an affordable, accurate pistol with excellent ergonomics and shoot ability. This model doesn’t come with any safety, so it’s not recommended for beginners who are still learning how to handle a handgun. So, if you’re looking for that type of firearm you can find options at this price point that do have them included.
The Canik TP9SFx comes with a standard magwell that makes it easy to load the weapon when you’re at home, but it doesn’t have a bevel that will aid in redirecting your magazine if you make an error while inserting it. So if you miss the magwell by a small amount, you might end up pushing your magazine to one side or another. This happens with many similar handguns but is something you should be aware of when considering this model.
The Canik TP9SFx features Warren Tactical sights, which have a blacked-out U notch rear and a fiber optic front. The Warren Tactical rear sight has a slick back without any lines to prevent glare. The U notch on the sight is .165 inches wide so it pairs up well with the .115 fiber optic front that is serrated. The rear sight of the pistol is installed on the optics mount cover plate so if you decide to add a slide mounted optic to the gun you’ll lose the rear sight. The Warren Tactical front fiber optic sight is fully adjustable for windage. The rear sight on the Canik TP9SFx is difficult to adjust, so it might be difficult to get used to at first. You might need multiple practice sessions before you can shoot accurately with this handgun. However, once you do learn how to aim with your sights properly, shooting at small targets will become much easier.
The grip of the Canik TP9SFx pistol feels very comfortable. The panels come with a slight texture to allow you to maintain a firm hold on the gun even if your hands are sweaty or wet. However, we didn’t notice any aggressive texturing so if you want a grip that will stop your hands from slipping around on the gun this might not be what you’re looking for. The panels are removable so you can swap them out for size 2 panels with an open bottom edge to allow room for your hand when wearing gloves. You can also install size 1 panels with a closed bottom edge for added concealability. However, the difference in the sizes is pretty small so if you plan on adding another grip make sure to measure your hands before placing an order.
The Canik TP9SFx does not come with any type of manual safeties but is equipped with drop safety, firing pin safety, and trigger safety. The Canik TP9SFx has no manual safety, which makes it best for a home defense gun or a concealed carry option. This handgun is very reliable and can easily be fired off quickly if you have to react during a dangerous situation. However, shooters who are new to handguns should not aim for this weapon as it does not come with safety options. There are no external safeties on this handgun, while trigger safety is the only safety mechanism on the gun. The TP9SFx trigger has a slightly long takeup before it hits the break, which will require you to move your finger more than usual to fire off shots quickly and smoothly.
The grip of the Canik TP9SFx feels very comfortable, but it’s not very aggressive so you might have some issues with getting a good hold on the gun especially if your hands are sweaty or wet. The Warren Tactical sights featured on this handgun are excellent and easy to aim with. The Canik TP9SFx has excellent ergonomics for both left and right-handed users. All the controls are ambidextrous so shooters can fire off shots with either hand. The safety mechanism used on this handgun is not as good as any other single-action handgun, but it’s reliable enough to take care of business if you ever need to use it. This handgun is very accurate and can shoot at high speeds with great muzzle control. However, you might need a couple of practice sessions to get used to the Warren Tactical sights installed on this gun.
The Canik TP9SFx comes with two 20 round magazines, which are both steel and polymer. They hold one more round than most other handguns on the market. However, you can easily order additional magazines for this handgun if you plan on using it for training sessions or competitions. When preparing to shoot off rounds at your target press down with two fingers to release the magazine that’s inserted into the gun. The magazine slides out smoothly and falls free from the weapon. After firing off a few rounds you can quickly insert a new magazine and continue shooting without any delays.
To disassemble this handgun, first, make sure it’s completely unloaded then lock back the slide to remove it from the gun. Now push down on the tabs located at the front of the chassis and pull it out. Finally, push the retainer pin out and remove the slide stop lever, firing pin, and trigger bar assembly. After you remove all of the above components, release the magazine catch to separate the chassis from the grip. Then rotate up on two tabs located behind the trigger with your fingers so you can lift it up and away from the grip.
The double-action trigger has a slightly longer take up before it hits the breaking point and requires you to move your finger quite a bit before shooting off shots smoothly. The reset is short and takes place close to the back of the grip, so it’s best to release your finger from the trigger fully after each shot. The single-action trigger on this handgun has a short take up and reset which makes it excellent for shooting off fast shots without causing too much disruption in muzzle control. Overall, shooters can easily fire off rounds smoothly and quickly with this handgun.
