The night vision device meets with divided opinions among hunters. Praised to heaven by some, demonized by others and considered unethical. What is certain, however, is that progress will not stop at hunting. Who would have believed 10 years ago in 8x zoom, flexible reticles or in electronics that connect the optics to the mobile phone to store ballistic data on it?
Night vision technology has also been constantly improved and today’s devices provide a performance that was unthinkable years ago. In some federal states the increasing wild boar population and the threat of ASP has already been reacted to with special permits for night vision devices. Whether this can now curb the further spread of ASP is another matter and is definitely not clear.
In some Eastern European countries the possession and also the use of night sights is allowed when hunting wild boars. However, you should inform yourself about the applicable regulations of the respective country before you go hunting.
Which night vision device is recommended?
Night vision devices are devices that allow you to see in the dark or twilight. For this purpose, the residual light is amplified in order to make even small amounts of light visible. Night vision devices are available, for example, in binocular design as binoculars. Monoculars can be used as hand-held or attachment devices with the help of an optical unit. The purchase of a night vision device should definitely be well considered, considering that high-quality devices quickly cost several thousand dollars .

The night vision attachment
When choosing a night vision attachment, one should take into account the conditions of the area. If you hunt more at a certain distance or if you shoot more in the field and meadow, this is more the rule. The hunting shop LivingActive offers sophisticated and high quality night vision devices of the brands Dipol, Dedal and Jahnke in their assortment. These manufacturers offer night vision attachments, which cover the middle and upper class. If you have any questions about night vision devices or night vision attachments, the expert advisors of LivingActive are always available and bring light into the darkness. As the name suggests, night vision attachments are placed in front of the riflescope. This is done with the help of a ring adapter, which encloses the lens. The outer diameter of the respective lens is measured. Riflescopes differ in this
value, as manufacturers do not necessarily use the same wall thickness. Leica, for example, has a particularly strong wall thickness, Swarovski a filigree wall thickness.
Dipole DN34 night vision attachment
The dipole night vision attachment DN34 from Eastern Europe is the optimal companion when it comes to the Kirrung hunt. If an appropriate permission exists and the dipole DN34 is used as attachment, a 6x magnification can be used on the riflescope. This means that distances which are at a certain range can be covered well. The detection range is of course much higher and is in the range of about 200m. Another advantage of the dipole DN34 is its compact dimensions and the low weight of 610g.
Considering that such a device is clamped in front of the scope by means of an adapter, compact dimensions and a light weight should be aimed for. The dipole DN34 is powered by a 3 Volt Lithium R-12C3 battery and therefore has an operating time of about 55 hours.
The scope of delivery includes an absolutely wild safe infrared radiator. Certainly it is not the best infrared radiator available on the market. However, it fulfils its purpose and you save several hundred dollars . The infrared radiator
Infrared lamps are ideal for taking the optical performance of night vision devices to a whole new level. The emitted infrared radiation is able to brighten up the image of a night vision device and thus significantly improve the image display and increase the operating range. The night vision device, which is a residual light amplifier, can also be used under the worst light conditions.
In principle, one can imagine an infrared lamp like an invisible flashlight. For the game and the human eye the light, which has a wavelength of 850nm, is invisible. However, if you look through a night vision device, the cone of light illuminates the image enormously. The light cone can be varied in width to adapt it optimally to the given conditions.
The dipole DN34 is available with green or black/white tube. The tubes of the dipole DN34 are made by the Russian company Katod. In general it can be noted that a black/white tube is usually perceived as having a higher contrast. The dipole DN34 is the optimal device for the price-conscious hunter of forest and Kirrung.
Hunting in the field – Jahnke DJ8 1×56 night vision attachment
Hunting in the field makes different demands on a night vision attachment than in pure forest or Kirrung hunting.
Usually further distances have to be covered and this is exactly where the German made Jahnke DJ8 1×56 night vision attachment comes into play. By using a much larger eyepiece lens compared to the dipole DN34 and the high-quality Photonis tubes, it is possible to use up to 12x magnification on the riflescope.
The customer also has the possibility to choose not only the colour but also the quality of the respective tube. The fewer dust inclusions there are, the higher the final price of the Jahnke DJ8 1×56, so depending on the requirements and budget the customer can put together his Jahnke individually.
The customer can also choose an Auto Gating function. If unpredictable light sources such as car headlights, flashes or even muzzle flashes occur, the Auto Gating function takes effect. This prevents over-exposure of the night vision device.
This feature protects the image intensifier tube and thus helps to extend the life of the tube.
The housing of the devices is completely made of magnesium. This material allows a relatively light construction considering the size of the Jahnke DJ8. Fluorescent control elements allow a targeted handling even in complete darkness. Unfortunately, the Jahnke DJ8 does not come with an infrared radiator.
This has to be purchased additionally and thus increases the purchase price even more.
All in all, the Jahnke DJ8 offers excellent optical performance, best workmanship and material quality and is, as already mentioned, the optimal choice for the extensive field. Whatever your hunting ground or hunting conditions are.
