How to Adjust Mower Deck on a Husqvarna Zero Turn Mower?

Adjusting the mower deck means setting up the mower blade to an appropriate height and leveling the tires of the mower properly as the tires also play an important role in the height.

If the blades are at an uncertain height then the grass will be cut very unevenly and will make the lawn look very rough.

But if the blades are straight and leveled properly then each and every strand of grass will be cut at an equal angle ensuring your lawn looks smoother than ever.

Therefore, it is very important that one should know the entire procedure -‘Adjusting the deck height on a Husqvarna zero turn mower’.

So, if Husqvarna is your best lawn buddy then what are you waiting for? Let’s get started.

Steps to Adjust Mower Deck on a Husqvarna Zero Turn Mower

Step 1

First of all, you should always note that whenever you are adjusting the mower deck the mower should be parked on a flat surface.

Press the parking brake lever with your foot and turn the clutch switch towards that is on the left-hand side of the dash upwards to loosen the cutting blades.

Step 2

After doing this, you have to push the attachment lift lever that is on the left side of the seat to the maximum height that it can reach.

Turn off the ignition and take out the ignition key. Open up the hood where the engine is kept and unplug the black colored rubber spark plug.

Step 3

Before moving ahead, make sure the engine cools down completely.

Now, take out the valve from each of the tires and check the pressure inside them with any pressure-measuring gauge.

If it’s less than 15 that means the tires of your lawnmower are not inflated properly. The pressure for a Husqvarna lawn mower should be at least 15 PSI. Inflate the tires to make sure that they are aligned with each other.

Step 4

Now that we are done with the tires let’s move towards the blades.

Before starting working with the blades put on your heavy leather gloves for safety sake.

Measure the distance between the left side of the blade and the ground and the right side of the blade with the ground. Note down these readings.

Step 5

Further, find the lift adjustment nuts of your mower. These nuts are used for the purpose of adjusting the deck height. There are two nuts, one on the left side and the other on the right side.

Moving them clockwise lifts the deck upwards and moving them counterclockwise will move the deck downwards.

Step 6

Turn the lift-link adjustment nuts clockwise or counterclockwise in order to align the deck in a straight line.

Turning the left adjustment nut will move the left side of the deck and turning the right adjustment nut will do the same on the right side of the deck.

With the help of these lift-link adjustment nuts and an adjusting wrench level the right and left side of the deck until they are at equal distances from the bottom.

Step 7

Now, rotate the blades in a 90° direction in order to make the tip of the blades pointing towards the front and back of the mower deck.

Now, measure the distance of the front and back tips of the blades with the ground. Record these measurements and compare them.

The reading taken at the front should be ⅛” to ½” lower than the back measurement.

If your measurements are not coming like this, that means you need to adjust the blades to a proper height.

Step 8

On the front of the mower, you will notice a jam nut. Behind that jam nut, there will be an adjusting nut.

You have to loosen the jam nut in order to expose the adjusting nut. Move the jam nut counterclockwise in order to lose it so that you can reach the adjusting nut.

Now when you have reached the inner nut, move it clockwise if you want to raise the height of the blade or counterclockwise if you need to lower down the blade.

Remember, moving the inner nut clockwise or anticlockwise will only move the front of the blade. There is no way to move its back.

Repeat the steps until the front tip becomes ⅛” to ½” lower than the back.

Once everything is done, retighten the jam nut again until it comes in contact with the inner nut and at the end replug the black colored rubber spark plug that you unplugged in the beginning.

Final Words:

Adjusting the deck of a Husqvarna zero turn mower is not so easy. The whole process has two things to do. One is the adjustment of the tires and the other is to adjust the deck height.

Inflating the tires is not so difficult but when it comes to the blades one needs to take all the safety precautions and always go through the user’s manual before you begin.
